GEMMA Winter’s mum Bernie comes to her rescue as the new mum-of-four is picked on by snobby mums at her quads’ parent and baby group in Coronation Street next week.

Bernie – played by Jane Hazlegrove on the ITV soap – left the cobbles sharpish after her campaign against Kel led to an arson attack against her daughter’s home.

Gemma insists she’s not struggling to Bernie

Corrie fans have watched Gemma struggle ever since the dramatic birth of her quads while stuck on a cable car.

Next week’s episodes of Corrie will see Bernie arrive back on the cobbles to come to her daughter’s rescue after Gemma sounds overwhelmed in a voicemail she leaves for her.

When Bernie arrives viewers will see her cast her eye over the mess in Gemma’s house and tell her she doesn’t seem to be coping judging from the state of it.

After tidying the house, Bernie tries to persuade Gemma to take a break and leave Paul and Billy to babysit.

But Gemma clearly has anxiety at the thought of leaving her babies and says she’d rather stick by them.

Gemma introduces Bernie to the other mums

Later in the week disaster strikes when Gemma takes her mum to the Baby Senses class.

When she tries to arrange a meetup later with Imogen and Vanessa, they are quick to make an excuse.

But Gemma later hears music and voices coming from Imogen’s house and realises they’re having a party without her.

But Bernie refuses to stand for her daughter being picked on and barges into Imogen’s back garden to have a go at her for not inviting Gemma.

Has Bernie shut them up for good?

Dolly-Rose Campbell – who plays Gemma on the ITV soap – has hinted that the soap will be delving into Gemma’s mental health struggles in coming weeks as she’s picked on by the snobby mums.

Speaking about Gemma’s struggles, Dolly-Rose told Digital Spy: “She is not massively confident. It is all a front and now she feels more vulnerable than ever.

“She does have people offering to help her, but she hates asking for help. She doesn’t want to admit that she is struggling to get everything done and her mum is not around any more.”

Speaking about Bernie’s return, Dolly-Rose said: “That is exactly what she [Gemma] needs.

“Bernie knows her better than anyone and it is going to take someone close to her to recognise what she is going through and that this is more than just struggling with the babies, she does need real help to get through this.”
