CORONATION Street’s David Platt has given a rare glimpse of his sensitive side as he recreates his winter wedding to Shona.

Jack P Shepherd’s troublesome character is at the heart of the ITV soap‘s festive Christmas Day special, spoiler images have confirmed.

Corrie’s David Platt delights wife Shona by recreating their 2019 wedding on Christmas Day

They see Corrie‘s David and Shona, played by Julia Goulding, initially appearing on the rocks as they sit down for a heart to heart.

Gail Platt’s youngest tells his spouse – who lost her memory after she was victim to a shooting last Christmas – their relationship isn’t working, leaving the Roy’s Rolls employee devastated.

Yet things take a turn on the big day itself, when Shona and David are forced to spend Christmas together when his child Lily is rushed to A & E.

The emergency, which saw the youngster get a bead stuck up her nose, sparks a twinge of guilt in David when he realises she will be missed by her step-daughter and his other kids.

After Shona sees Daisy Midgely attempt to flirt with him, she believes all is over.

Yet Gail Platt’s youngest seeks her out in the Victoria Garden and declares his true feelings – and wants to give things another go.

He later hatches his grand wedding re-enactment with Max and Lily, even throwing fake snow into the mix.

Shona – who cannot remember their I Do moment due to her brain injury – is seen beaming with delight as she walks out of their front door in her wedding veil.

Show bosses have previously revealed the pair will have a second wedding as they vowed the couple’s love story will have a happy ending.

Corrie’s showrunner Iain MacLeod warns that while it will be a “bumpy road”, all hope is not lost and there is light at the end of the tunnel for the duo.

He said: “It’s not love at first sight when she sees him – for his part, David’s challenge is to make her fall back in love with him.

“But she’s also a different proposition too so he also has to fall back in love with her. Nobody has a long term desire to split them up so they will have a happy ending.”

MacLeod, who has produced the soap since 2018, described the plot as a “a very unique and emotionally complicated story.”

He added: “At the bottom of it all is a love story really, they’re like cheese and crackers – none are good without the other.”

Coronation Street airs the scenes in an hour long special on Christmas Day at 7pm on ITV.
