CORONATION Street icon Beverley Callard has revealed how she once begged Ricky Gervais for a part in After Life.

The actress, who played Liz McDonald in Corrie for 31 years, quit the ITV soap almost two years ago – and now it seems she has her sights set on Netflix stardom.

The 64-year-old tried her luck after meeting Gervais at the National Television Awards

Despite already having a “few secret projects” in the pipeline, Beverley has made it no secret of her ambition to star in Ricky‘s After Life.

In fact, the 64-year-old even went as far as asking the comedian himself if she could have a role in the tear-jerking comedy-drama.

“I’ve never done that in my 45 years of working,” she said, recalling the moment she met him for the first time at the National Television Awards.

“I am hoping it will happen – he was really flattered and absolutely lovely.”

Unfortunately for Beverley, Gervais confirmed that After Life – officially the most-watched British comedy of the decade – will not be returning for another season.

Beverley’s aspirations to star alongside Ricky comes after the Rovers Return legend revealed her time on the cobbles came at a price.

In an exclusive interview with HOAR’s TV Mag, Bev disclosed how she was overworked and had no work-life balance.

“As an actor, you’re scared to say no to a job, but the scripts came and I thought I’ve just got to trust my instincts really,” she revealed.

“It’s not nine to five, it’s like seven until ten at night and it’s six days a week.

“It’s really full-on and you have no life, like it used to be a lot harder years ago when the cast was smaller.”

This week, the former Corrie actress returns to our screens in Gold’s new comedy-drama series Newark, Newark.

The series also stars Gavin & Stacey’s Mat Horne, comedienne and writer Morgana Robinson and Misfits actress Lauren Socha.
