CORONATION Street star Sam Aston and his wife Briony have revealed they are going to have a baby boy – and joked they’re glad it’s not quads.

The loved-up couple’s first child is due in September, and they hope it will be the first of many in the years to come.

Speaking to OK! Sam said: “We’re having a boy! It was a massive surprise when we found out, as there are loads of girls in our families, so we were adamant we were having a girl.”

While 24 weeks pregnant Briony added: “We found out the day before lockdown. Sam couldn’t come with me because of the current rules, so I got the consultant to write the sex on a piece of paper and put it in an envelope and we both then sat in the car and opened it together. We were over the moon.”

Sam, who has eight siblings, said one child is “perfect for now” and joked: “I’m glad it’s not quads.”

Briony went on to add they would love to “fill their house with kids”.

The pair announced they were expecting just a week ago, and have now revealed they were only trying for four or five weeks.

Sam, 26, who plays dad-of-five Chesney Brown in Corrie, previously told the publication: “I’m so happy!”

He and on-screen partner Gemma Winter have their hands full with baby quadruplets, and Sam admitted handling babies on set has given him more confidence for when his own child is born.

Sam and yoga instructor Briony, 25, got married last year, two years after announcing their engagement.

They exchanged their vows – and did a yoga-themed first dance – in front of friends, family members and his soap co-stars at Stock Farm in Cheshire.

Last month, the couple celebrated their first wedding anniversary together while living in lockdown at their incredible countryside cottage.

Sam recently explained that he and Briony “liked the idea of a big family” but said that “neither of them felt ready” for children yet.

Sam and Briony met as teenagers, striking up a relationship over early computer messaging app MSN Messenger.

He told the Mirror: “Briony and I met when I was about 15 or 16. We talked through MSN.”

They met again year later, when she helped out at a drama workshop he was running, with Sam explaining: “We went for a meal that night at a country pub and that was it. We’ve been together ever since.”
