CORONATION Street actor Tony Maudsley has been left furious after a stranger smashed up his car and drove off.

The soap star – who currently plays George Shuttleworth on the ITV show – took to Twitter to share a snap of his damaged motor.

Tony, 54, told his fans how a “huge lorry” had smashed into the side of his Kia Sportage, leaving it with the bodywork hanging off.

The red car, which can is priced at £25,000 brand new, had been badly damaged along the side and back by the lorry driver.

“Huge thanks to the two workmen who saw a lorry bash into my parked car yesterday and then drive off,” Tony wrote.

“The dynamic duo then followed him in their own van and photographed his registration plate for me.”

Thanking the hero workmen one final time, Tony concluded: “There are some good people in this world.”

In April, it was revealed that Tony will keep playing George Shuttleworth after show bosses renewed his contract.

The actor – who is best known for playing hairdresser Kenneth in Benidorm – will stay on the cobbles until at least 2023.

Sharing a smiling selfie outside Corrie’s iconic pub, Rovers Return, Tony announced the happy on news on Twitter.

“That’s me (and George) all signed up to Corrie till at least July 2023 and I couldn’t be happier!” he captioned the photo.

Tony announced he was joining Corrie in 2020 during an interview on Lorraine – hitting it off with Eileen Grimshaw in a new romance.

He admitted he went back years with Eileen actress Sue Cleaver – and they couldn’t wait to work together again.

Tony said: “Me and Sue were married about 20 years ago in a show called City Central. When I went for the part Sue very kindly came in and read with me and we had an instant connection.

“When we worked together 20 years ago we got on so, so well and that spark was absolutely still there.

“I felt it, Sue still felt it and the casting director and the producer felt it because they said, ‘I think we’ve found our George’.”

HOAR on Sunday revealed how Tony had joined the soap but that the pandemic had delayed his debut.

Tony is due to stick around on Corrie until at least July 2023
