Speaking about the unfortunate incident, the star told The Oldie Magazine: “I began to think laterally. We’d paid for our smoked-haddock fishcakes and the large vodka at the baffling Sainsbury’s self-service till.

“Maybe I’d removed the pack from my back to help me relax while addressing a speaking barcode?”

The pair began to retrace their steps to try and figure out where she could have left her bag considering it not only had her lines in it, but it also had her iPad and sunglasses in it too.

After wracking her brains trying to locate the it, a woman in Stockport called Karen got in touch with the actress.

She was able to get in touch with her because Maureen had left some prescription pills in the bag which had personal details on it.

Despite being reunited with the backpack a week later – all of her belongings were missing – including the top secret script.

Maureen added: “It smelled of dog pee, but she hadn’t washed it because of possible DNA traces. Full marks, Karen!”

This isn’t the first time that the residents of the cobbles have accidentally let slip some of the soaps biggest secrets.

Maureen has played Evelyn Plummer on the soap since 2018

In 2013 Michelle Keegan, 32 – who played Tina McIntye from 2008-2014 – infuriated bosses by accidentally tweeting a photo of co-star Jack P Shepherd smoking a shisha pipe with two scripts on the table.

One of the papers appeared to show the results of a paternity test ordered by Jack’s on-screen alter ego David Platt.

The following day a top secret script was found abandoned near ITV’s studios in Salford Quays, Greater Manchester.

The passerby revealed that the papers contained the plots for three major episodes due to be screened later in the month.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, told HOAR: “I’m a big fan and flicked through them to see if anything massive was about to happen in Weatherfield.

“I know they’re not military documents, but you’d think they might take better care of their plots.”

Fearing someone might get hold of the paperwork — which belonged to a script supervisor — and reveal all the details, the man handed the bundle to HOAR.

He added: “Anyone could have tweeted what was going to happen in Corrie. It would have spoiled it for millions of fans.”

A Corrie source said: “We will be looking into this. It’s a bit embarrassing to say the least.”
