CORONATION Street’s Will Mellor looked taken aback on This Morning when Alison Hammond asked him about drugs.
The 45-year-old actor, who plays baddie Harvey Gaskell in the soap, was appearing to talk about upcoming storylines.
She asked: “Did you do any research, because he is a drug lord isn’t he? What do you know about drugs, babes?”
Looking slightly surprised, Will replied: “Well.”
Breaking the tension, Dermot O’Leary prompted laughter as he replied: “Wow. Just went there, did you?”
Will joked: “Did you used to work for the News of the World did you?”
But, answering the question, he replied: “These programmes about gangs, like 24 Hours In Police Custody, I watched one of them about Manchester gangs in Salford and all that.
“I saw what they were like and I based it on them and how relentless they are. They don’t really care about people’s feelings as long as they get what they want or who they hurt.
They do some people get these young kids to work in their gangs and once they’re in they can’t get out.
They use people who are not on the drug squad’s radar so they can do their business without being caught. And if they do get caught it’s the kids who get arrested not the big bosses.
“That what my character’s like. He’s a narcissist and he likes playing with people’s emotions.
Tonight sees that start of Super Soap Week, a string of thrilling storylines on Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
Will told HOAR he has been mistaken for a drug dealer like his character, with people approaching him on nights out.
He said: “It was funny. I went to the local pub and someone said to me, ‘Have you got owt? Have you got owt, Harvey?’
“I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ “I’ve also had a few women who’ve said, ‘I hope you’re not selling drugs around here’.”
