CORONATION Street’s Shelley King has revealed that Yasmeen’s court scenes may never air as lockdown throws the soap’s ongoing abuse storyline into chaos.

The cast were seen arriving on location to film part of the trial before production on all soap operas was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Shelley discussed the disturbing storyline on This Morning today

Now 64-year-old Shelley, who plays Yasmeen, has said that viewers may never get to see what was filmed as scriptwriters return to the drawing board to battle the delay in filming that lockdown has caused.

Speaking on This Morning earlier today, Shelly explained: “I don’t know just how much of that bit that we have already filmed is going to go forward, we were stopped mid-stream and its going to be very difficult.

“It depends on what we are allowed to do with government restrictions, so I don’t know whether what you’ve heard has been filmed will be shown.”

ITV boss Kevin Lygo recently revealed that by halving the amount of Corrie episodes shown each week, they have enough pre-recorded content to last until the end of June.

He is considering having the cast return to set with socially-distanced scenes and more two-hander episodes, but it all depends on government guidelines.

Tonight’s episode of Corrie will see Yasmeen and Geoff’s coercive control storyline come to a head as Yasmeen attempts to kill her husband in an act of self defence.

Admitting that it has been “disturbing” to film the scenes, Yasmeen shared: “I wouldn’t call it retaliation – it started two years ago, in Geoff’s first introduction we all loved him because he seems great.

“It has been a slow drip and gradual escalation of abuse so it’s not an attack, she’s defending herself, it’s an instinct, she’s a cornered animal in the scenes we are going to see tonight.

“All she does is defend herself, she doesn’t know in that instant what it is actually happening to her. All Yasmeen is thinking of in the scene is survival.”

She also pointed out the character’s vulnerability that enabled her to fall victim to evil Geoff – despite her strong exterior at the start of their romance.

Shelley shared: “People who display strength… it’s just to protect something quite vulnerable, and I think if you look back at Yasmeen’s history – she is hugely vulnerable.

“She’s lost her husband and son, she’s open, and it gives the perpetrator a greater sense of victory.”
