DENISE Van Outen has revealed how an almighty row between her and former pal, Emmerdale star Sheree Murphy, ended their tight friendship.

In another of the shocking revelations from the presenter’s tell-all book, A Bit of Me, Denise talks about how the pair fell out when Denise put a man before her mate.

The former Big Breakfast presenter, 47, became close with soap star Sheree in her late teens.

Sheree, who is now married to footballer Harry Kewell, went on to play Tricia Dingle in Emmerdale, Eva Strong in Hollyoaks and Dakota Davies in Neighbours.

She also finished in third place on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! in 2005 and enjoyed a stint on Loose Women.

But back then she and Denise were just two aspiring stars who ended up becoming close after Denise dated a DJ called Darren who was pals with Sheree’s brother.

Quickly, Denise ended up moving in with Sheree and her family around the age of 17, claiming the living arrangement “just sort of happened”.

But when the two teenagers went out clubbing and Denise decided to go back to Darren’s rather than heading home with Sheree, their friendship soured.

Denise recalls: “This story saddens me a bit because Sheree and I were good friends, and I suppose it was my relationship with Darren and the way it came about that came between us for a long time.”

While Denise says that Sheree gave her her blessing at the time to head to Darren’s flat and carrying on partying, the next day she got a reality check when she went back home to Sheree’s.

“When I arrived at the house, Sheree’s mum Heather opened the door, not looking terrible happy,” Denise reveals, going on to reveal that Sheree didn’t want to see her after she abandoned her.

She explains that Heather told her ‘You don’t go out to a club with a girlfriend and then go off with a boy and leave her’ and then handed her her belongings.

While Denise said she felt “slightly bewildered” at the time, she now totally understands where Sheree and her mother were coming from.

“It’s one of those things that, as a mum, I now understand entirely,” Denise, who parents her daughter Betsy, 11, with ex Lee Mead, says.

“But back then, I was a teenage girl, determined to follow the party wherever it went.”

While Denise ended up moving in with Darren, she admits her relationship with Sheree never recovered.

“Sheree and I were never close after that, which made me sad,” she explains.

That said, the pair have hashed it out since, and both acknowledged that “it was a silly thing to come between us”.

And Denise fully takes the blame for her actions.
