EASTENDERS and Hollyoaks return tonight with their first new episodes in three months – and fans are excited.

The BBC soap was forced off air due to the pandemic shutdown in July and after a summer of filler shows, BBC One is welcoming back the show to the air.

EastEnders is back with a bang tonight

It will air a 21 minute episode tonight at 8.05pm on BBC One.

From then on, the soap will be airing four nights a week at the slightly shorter length of twenty minutes.

The news will be a relief for viewers, who have been left hanging after the finale on Tuesday, June 16, ended on a huge cliffhanger.

Fans were left speechless as Sharon Watts and Ian Beale swooped in to buy the Queen Vic, leaving Sharon’s ex-husband and prospective buyer Phil Mitchell raging and setting the scene nicely for the soap’s famous doof doof theme tune.

Hollyoaks also returns for its first new episodes since July

Speaking about the return of EastEnders, Executive Producer Jon Sen said: “From the moment we turned the lights out in The Queen Vic our ambition was to come back with a bang and this autumn certainly does that.

“As soon as Albert Square reawakens the drama returns at a pace and, although working within social distancing guidelines has certainly given us some new challenges, I am incredibly proud of what everyone has achieved. The show is looking fantastic and we can’t wait for ‘series two’ to begin…”

Meanwhile Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks is also making a comeback with a double bill of new episodes on Channel 4 at 6.30pm and a first look episode on E4 at 7pm.

It has been a long wait for fans and they have taken to social media to show just how excited they are.

One wrote: “Omg so buzzing Hollyoaks and Eastenders are back tonight.”

A second said: “I don’t think I’m emotionally prepared for Eastenders to return.”

Another added: “I am SOOOOOO bloody excited for eastenders to be back tonight, feels like Christmas.”
