RESIDENTS of Walford will make a toast to Mel Owen after the character was killed off in dramatic Eastenders scenes on Thursday.

The businesswoman – who is played by actorTamzin Outhwaitein the BBC soap – was killed by a lorry after hearing voices of her dead son Hunter.

She had been involved in a car crash after racing Sharon Mitchell to get to Phil to expose Keanu Taylor being the father of Sharon’s baby.

However, she survived the initial crash with the help of Sharon.

But after hearing Hunter’s voice , Mel began to walk back into the road as a speeding lorry appeared and killed her instantly.

Following her death, the residents of Albert Square will make a toast to Mel in the Queen Vic.

In the preview picture, Tina Carter (Luisa Bradshaw-White), Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) and Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) are seen raising a glass to Mel.

Mel’s death will no doubt be a hard one for Sharon, who was accused of killing her by Lisa Fowler.

Phil went to pick Sharon up to take her home, but when they got in Lisa arrived and wasted no time in accusing Sharon of murdering Mel.

She said: “Is that Mel’s blood on your hands? Mel followed you to the airport to tell Phil, didn’t she? It was the only way for you to shut her up.

“You killed her. Because that baby isn’t yours and that’s why Mel’s dead.”

Sharon flew into a rage and demanded Lisa get out of the house before storming upstairs.

However she didn’t go before telling Phil: “I’m telling the truth Phil, Mel found out and that’s why she’s dead.”
