EastEnders’ Kara Tointon says she’d ‘never say never’ to returning as Dawn Swann after 12 years

KARA Tointon has revealed she’d “never say never” to returning to EastEnders as Dawn Swann.

The Mr Selfridge actress, 36, won a legion of fans playing the feisty barmaid on the BBC soap from 2005 until 2009.

And during an appearance on Loose Women on Monday, Kara hinted that she wouldn’t mind a return to Albert Square.

“I’d never say never. I don’t think I’ve been killed just yet, not that I know of,” she teased.

The actress reflected on the amount of time that’s passed since she poured pints at the Queen Vic.

Kara said: “It’s been a while. It’s been 12 years or something, but I loved my time on the show, it was great.”

She added: “Oh, God, a lot has happened since then. But good memories.”

The Strictly Come Dancing winner had appeared on the ITV chat show with her fiance Marius Jensen to promote an app to share storytelling among family members.

Kara joined EastEnders in 2005 as the on-screen sister of Micky Miller, played by her ex-boyfriend, Joe Swash.

She had many explosive storylines over the years, including an affair with married businessman Rob Minter [Stuart Laing] and the attempts of his wife “Mad May” [Amanda Drew] to get her hands on hers and Rob’s baby.

Kara has a 19-month-old son, Frey, with fiance Marius

Dawn’s final drama saw her cheat on fiance Gary with his boss Phil Mitchell [Steve McFadden] until Gary found out and left Walford.

But as he went to leave in a canal boat, Dawn chased after him and declared her love for him – prompting them to reunite.

Dawn decided to start afresh, leaving the soap with Gary and baby Summer.

After leaving EastEnders, Kara competed in Strictly Come Dancing with now-ex Artem Chigvintsev. in 2010 and won the Glitterball Trophy.

She has also starred in the ITV period dramas Mr Selfridge and The Halcyon.

In her personal life, Kara has settled down with chiropractor Marius – who she got engaged to in 2018.

They are planning to get married in Norway this year and share a 19-month-old son, Frey.
