EMMERDALE fans were left baffled this evening as Ellis Chapman returned to the soap but played by a completely different actor.

Newbie Aaron Anthony made his debut on the show tonight after Asan NJie was sacked and recast for threatening to “knife and kill” Jamie Lomas at an awards bash in September.

During tonights episode Ellis arrives back unannounced as Al Chapman (Michael Wildman) and Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) are embroiled in yet another row.

He steps in and tries to calm it down after Al accuses Billy of not pulling his weight.

Ellis was last seen leaving for Dubai to go and work with his mum (Sandra Marvin).

Those watching at home were confused by how different he looked and took to Twitter to comment on it.

One person wrote: “Discount Ellis making his first appearance”

A second added: “#Emmerdale so we’re getting the all new older in no way similar Ellis back”

While a third wrote: “Oh Ellis is back…with a new face”

Speaking about landing the role, Aaron said: “Emmerdale is a cracking show with a brilliant cast that I’m over the moon to now be a part of.

“I know Ellis is a well loved character and I’m looking forward to continuing his journey and all that’s in store for him.”

Asan, who joined the ITV soap as Ellis Chapman last year, became embroiled in a row with Jamie after the TV Choice Awards at London’s Hilton Park Lane hotel.

The dispute is believed to have been started by Asan – who was heard goading Jamie.

He trained at Bristol’s Old Vic Theatre School between 2010 and 2013 and describes himself as “a good laugh to work with, except when its inappropriate to be a laugh”.
