EMMERDALE viewers were left baffled while watching last night’s episode – after they were reminded of Jai and Charity’s kidnapping horror.
Fans of the Yorkshire-based soap were reminded of a time when Jai and Charity were married, with the abusive husband locking her in a shipping container.
It seems like many had forgotten that it had ever happened – and some even forgot that the couple were ever married at all.
Viewers soon took to Twitter to air their thoughts at the unexpected reference.
One fan said: “I completely forgot that Jai and Charity were married.”
Someone else added: “Wow! Emmerdale remembered Jai locking Charity in that container.
“Funny that – she seems to have forgotten.”
Another fan sarcastically penned: “The casual mention of Jai kidnapping Charity. Welcome to the village of kidnapping and arson.
“For the locals, it was just a Tuesday.”
The reminder of the infamous incident came when Jai went to find Ben and Aaron as he accused them of speaking to reporters about the rope bridge accident.
Jai, who tried to bin the blame for it onto Ben in last night’s episode, felt the rath of Ben who affirmed: “I’ve dealt with bigger bullies than you before.”
Jai replied: “Oh, you think so? Well maybe you should ask your boyfriend what I’m capable of,” before walking off.
Not knowing what he meant by that, Ben asked Aaron who explained that Jai once kidnapped Charity and put her in a shipping container a few years back.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
