EMMERDALE viewers have been left heartbroken for Amelia Spencer after she was forced to clean up her dad Dan after he soiled himself.
Mechanic Dan – who is played by actor Liam Fox in the ITV soap – was left paralysed after an allergic reaction to almonds caused him to suffer a seizure.
In tonight’s episode Dan was unable to move and trapped in his chair, but when Amelia offered to stay at home and look after him, he insisted she go to school.
But once she was out the door Dan tried moving onto the sofa but couldn’t manage it.
In a heartbreaking scene Amelia returned home to be confronted with her dad humiliated and downcast.
She said: “I’m really sorry it took me ages to get the bus, did you get your breakfast OK?
“You haven’t moved at all. I bet you’re starving. I’ll get you something to eat.”
But as she walked over to him she realised that he had wet himself and that she would have to clear it up.
“Did you spill something?” she asked trying to make him feel better, but Dan became emotional.
He said: “I couldn’t move, I couldn’t help it. Amelia, I’m so sorry.”
The hard-hitting scenes are showing the reality of the lives of young carers when they slip through the cracks of the system.
Viewers were in pieces for Amelia and furious with Dan for not getting help from professionals instead of relying on his young daughter.
