EMEMRDALE’s David Metcalfe found out that he IS the father of Maya’s baby tonight – but fans think Dr Liam Cavanagh might have fiddled the test results.

Paedo teacher Maya Stepney left her newborn baby on ex-boyfriend David’s doorstep on Christmas Day.

The baby’s father was revealed in today’s episode

David shares his home with stepson Jacob Gallagher – who Maya groomed and seduced – and the two men have been left desperate to find out which one of them is the father.

Viewers saw David’s gobsmacked face as Leyla read out the results of their DNA test and told their son: “You have had a lucky escape.”

The teenager replied: “I can’t believe it, I was convinced he was mine.”

Leyla showed him the letter as proof and said “it’s all there in black and white” whilst Eric Pollard cooed over the baby, before handing the child to David.

Leyla was the one to announce the news

David wasn’t sure how to react

He told him the baby: “You have a wonderful daddy and your granddad loves you. Here, you take him (David). It’s official now.”

But David didn’t look convinced – and viewers at home had their suspicions.

One person said: “Is the baby really David’s though? Didn’t he ask Liam to fake the results?”

Another wrote on Twitter: “Davids the daddy!! Or is he?? ” as a third mused: “Question is, is the baby ACTUALLY David’s or did he rig it like David asked?”

David Metcalfe and son Jacob Gallagher got a shock on Christmas Day when evil Maya left a baby on their doorstep

Last week, viewers came up with the theory that LIAM will be outed as the dad of Maya’s baby in a shock twist.

Amid a heated exchange between David and Dr Liam, a number of viewers believed they had spotted vital clues that would make the GP the father.

In one scene, David asked Liam, who previously dated Maya: “Why would Maya do this to us just when we were getting over her. Getting on with our lives.

David asked the doctor to tamper with the results to make sure it said he was the father, not his teenage son

“Maybe if youd have had a son it would have been worse for you.”

David then asked the doctor to fix the DNA results so he would be able to bring up the child instead of his teenage son.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: “David had given him permission to fix the results. Think it’s definitely going to be Liam’s now!”

Another tweeted: “Wonder if the baby turns out to be Liam’s.”
