HOLLYOAKS bosses have decided to cancel their annual Christmas party for the cast for the second year running amid Covid concerns.

Cast members were told last minute that their annual bash was scrapped, so have decided to organise something amongst themselves.

An insider said: “Everyone was hoping the party would be happening, so were gutted when they heard it wasn’t.

“Some of the cast will hold their own celebrations but it won’t be the same huge booze filled bash it usually is.

“Bosses have to keep the safety of everyone in mind and this is the sensible thing to do.”

The channel 4 soap was forced to cancel filming at the start of the pandemic in March 2020 and didn’t start filming again until June.

Since then a number of cast members have contracted covid or been in contact with someone who has – wrecking havoc on the filming.

Last night Prime Minister Boris Johnson insisted it was OK for Christmas parties to go ahead – despite fresh Covid restrictions put in place due to the Omicron strain.

Within moments of telling Brits to work from home, the PM said festive bashes and nativities can go ahead – but attendees should get tested.

He announced he was toughening the rules as scientists warned the NHS could be swamped by 1,000 daily patients infected with the super-strain.

It comes after we revealed that Coronation Street had decided to axe their party to be on the safe side.

The news has left cast members fuming, particularly the younger ones who were looking forward to a good knees up.
