HOLLYOAKS star David Tag had to beg bosses for clothes for his character Sylvar McQueen aftrer a slew of topless scenes.

The actor – who has played hunky Sylver for two years in the Channel 4 soap – revealed he’s had to resorting to dressing himself for scenes where his character is expecting to be shirtless.

The actor spoke exclusively to The Sun Online about upcoming storylines when he revealed he will be completely clothed for Hollyoaks Later next year.

He said: “It’s really exciting stuff and I’m looking forward to filming that.

“It’s really exciting, it’s Breda comeuppance. I don’t get my shirt off, which is unusual. I was really shocked at.”

David also revealed he had pushed back about script instructions having him shirtless in scenes that made no sense as a titillation for viewers.

He said laughing: “I’m grief stricken and I just take my clothes off.

“They tried to do it with a scene recently, quite a serious scene with me and Tony. The script said, ‘Sylvar shirtless’. So we had a chat and I put a vest on and had this really serious scene with Tony.”

And it wasn’t the first time he had clashed with bosses over the lack of costumes for himself.

He added: “There have been a couple because sometimes it seems completely out of context, you’re not going to be focusing on the story [if I’m shirtless].”

A Hollyoaks insider insisted any shirtless scenes in the script are at the direction of the writer who may not be aware at other directions given.

David also revealed how he still has no idea who shot Mercedes McQueen despite playing one of the suspects.

He added: “All the seven suspects are potentials. They’ve all got good motives – it could even be Bobby.

“They’ve kept it very vague, we don’t know who’s done it ourselves yet.
