EMMERDALE star Danny Miller has said he once “thought it would be easier if he wasn’t here”.
The actor, 31, opened up about his extreme anxiety while playing Aaron Dingle in the ITV soap – revealing it was sometimes so bad he had to stop filming.
Chatting to the Thomas brothers on the Mancs On The Mic podcast, Danny said: “I’m not gonna sit here and lie and say, ‘I wanted to kill myself’, but I certainly thought it would be easier if I wasn’t here.”
Speaking very candidly about his feelings, he explained: “I didn’t have anything to lose and I thought it would just be easier if I wasn’t here… so if I take myself out of the situation.
“That was the deepest and darkest it went. I never thought about it. I couldn’t.”
Danny, who left the soap last year, described his on-set panic attacks, saying: “Suddenly I start sweating, I start almost passing out.
More on Emmerdale
“I had it loads in Emmerdale when I’ve got a big scene and I’ve gone, ‘Oh my God, I’m gonna pass out’.
“They go, ‘Stand by’, and my brain’s going, ‘You’re gonna f*** this up, you’re gonna f*** this up’. I’m sweating and I go, ‘Sorry, you’ll have to cut there, I’m sweating’.”
The dad-of-one had no idea he had depression and anxiety though, and burst into tears when the doctor told him what was going on.
“I used to think it was an overactive thyroid. That’s what I got checked for. But it was anxiety. I just didn’t know how to deal with it.”
He went on to take antidepressants for two years and underwent therapy.
After leaving Emmerdale, Danny won I’m A Celebrity last year.
