KATE Garraway was moved to tears by her co-host Ben Shephard’s emotional poem after he revealed he’s taking time off Good Morning Britain.

The 53-year-old wrapped herself in a blanket covered in pictures of Ben, which was featured on Coronation Street, before listening to an old poem Ben had written for a competition.

Kate Garraway said she was moved to tears

She said: “Ben – who we always tease as uneducated with his dance degree – has actually penned some brilliant poetry.

“It makes me want to cry. It’s so lovely, I need a blankie and I need a hug after all that.

“I think we should get someone to pen a poem this morning. We will give away the Ben Shephard ‘blankie’.

“Maybe it should be about you? It can be as offensive and rude as you like – broadcastable – but it can be cheeky about Ben. Then the winner will get the blanket if you can pry it off me.”

Ben is taking time off Good Morning Britain

It was an emotional morning for Kate who broke the news that it was Ben’s last day on Good Morning Britain for a while because he’s taking a break to film ITV show Tipping Point.

Confirming he was stepping back as Kate’s co-host for a few weeks, Ben said: “We’re about to hit peak Tipping Point! Tipping Point series 11 and we’re all back in the studio, back socially distanced.

“I think I might do a live with Andi Peters because he’s doing Lorraine in a couple of weeks. But the set’s had to change in order to get everybody up and running.

“I’m not going to be here but I’m going to be working, Kate Garraway! I know you think I’ve got my feet up and trotters up down in the south of France!”
