KYM Marsh is thanking the NHS for saving the lives of her dad, her daughter and her son in a unique way.
The actress, 43, will show her support for doctors and nurses nationwide by joining a charity pub quiz to raise £500,000.
The former Coronation Street star explained: “The NHS saved my dad’s life, they saved my daughter’s life, they saved my son’s life, and they saved my life, I am forever in their debt.
“My dad suffered two heart attacks and without the amazing care and attention of doctors and nurses he wouldn’t be with us today. The first of those heart attacks was 26 years ago, and he’s still with us today and is 75-years-old.”
She then described how the NHS helped when her kids, Polly, nine, and David, 25, were born prematurely.
Kym said: “They are the reason two of my children, Polly and David are alive here today after being born prematurely and needing extra care.
“The odds were against Polly surviving and she needed help around the clock. She was born seven weeks premature and she needed help with every breath she took.”
Kym also opened up about the dedication of NHS staff in terms of her mental and physical health.
She said: “And they are the reason that I am here alive today. They got me through the most horrendous experience of my life when my son Archie passed away just minutes after being born in February 2009.
“Even when the doctors and nurses knew there wasn’t any hope of saving his life they never stopped giving their all to care for me, both physically and mentally.”
Kym went on: “They feared that I had contracted sepsis, and were concerned about my mental state as I struggled to come to terms with the awful pain of losing a child.”
She said: “There is no doubt I simply would not have got through the process alone – I wouldn’t be here without them.
“The staff were so dedicated and caring and some of them even came to Archie’s funeral, which I will never forget.” To show her gratitude to the NHS, Kym is joining fellow Corrie star Catherine Tyldesley as a quizmaster at the NHS charity pub quiz on Friday 22 May at 8pm.
Other stars like Corrie’s Hayley Tamaddon and Scott Wright, EastEnders’s Tracy Ann Oberman and Shaun Williamson, Apprentice star Luisa Zissman, Shaun Wallace and Paul Sinha from ITV’s The Chase, Kevin Ashman from BBC2’s Eggheads, and Sky Sports presenter Tom White all agreed to take part as question masters.
The charity event is being organised by ex-Apprentice star Daniel Lassman.
