MAURA Higgins is keeping a close eye on her boyfriend Giovanni Pernice’s ex Katie McGlynn after she signed up to Strictly Come Dancing.
The 30-year-old Love Island star has recently followed the former Coronation Street favourite on Instagram – no doubt keen to keep tabs and forge a friendship ahead of her working with her man.
The move comes just days after HOAR revealed that BBC bosses are desperate to pair 28-year-old Katie with pro dancer Giovanni this year – but fear it could create a storm for his love life.
The hunky Italian was romantically linked to the blonde actress five years ago, and pairing them together would create one of this year’s most sensational couples.
Strictly bosses are desperate for the natural chemistry that would fly between the two, but are concerned it could have a knock-on effect on Giovanni’s romance with Maura.
A TV insider told us: “This would be a dream ticket for Strictly producers, but a potential nightmare for the trio concerned.
“The show’s bosses always strive to pair up pros and celebrities likely to have the most chemistry. In that respect, Giovanni and Katie are an obvious choice.
“But they have to consider if that could have the knock-on effect of making life so difficult outside of the rehearsal studio that it might impact on their performances.”
And Maura might have good reason to be wary, with the dancer known for striking up romances with his Strictly co-stars.
In 2015 he dated another Corrie actress, Georgia May Foote, after they were partnered up together.
And in 2018 he dated Ashley Roberts when she signed up to the show.
Katie and Giovanni were romantically linked after being spotted looking cosy at an awards party, but Katie has insisted that nothing happened.
He and Maura only started dating this year, and regularly show off their romance on social media.
