JAMES Nightingale was terrified when he started receiving ominous notes from somebody who knows he shot Mercedes McQueen in Hollyoaks.

Hollyoaks fans are convinced that the lawyer is blacking out from his sleeping medication and sending himself the notes out of guilt – but will they be proven right?

Why is James receiving threatening notes in Hollyoaks?

James and Grace Black are keeping tight-lipped about their involvement in Mercedes shooting case.

But James is finding the cover-up difficult and has been wracked by guilt, especially since his lies indirectly caused the death of Graces brother Jesse Donovan.

The lawyer is also still grieving the death of his lover Harry Thompson which left him an emotional wreck.

James suffered through Jesses funeral this week and almost blurted out the truth to Courtney that hes the one to blame, but Grace managed to keep him under control.

Grace told him: “This shame is our punishment, and we have to live through it. For our kids.”

But just as James got home and thought the drama was over for the day, he was terrified to receive an anonymous note saying: I know you shot Mercedes.

James and Grace – who also received a note with the ominous warning – were terrified to realise that someone knew their dark secret.

Who is sending James the threatening notes in Hollyoaks?

When James lover Liam got involved in the note saga, he suggested to James that the culprit could be Sylver or John Paul McQueen.

But fans are convinced that a traumatised and guilty James is actually the culprit.

Viewers have flocked to Twitter to suggest that James is the one sending himself notes after blacking out from the medication hes been taking in order to sleep.

One fan tweeted: Call me crazy but I think it’s James sending the notes! He doesn’t remember! #hollyoaks.

Another added: Anyone else thinks James is blacking out doing the notes out of guilt #Hollyoaks.

A third tweeted: “Wait… the printer is empty. Kinda wondering if that means James is sending the notes to himself and Grace out of guilt but doesn’t remember because of the sleeping pills. They keep showing the pills as well… #Hollyoaks.”

However, exact plot details are being kept under wraps for now and fans will have to tune in to find out whether James is the culprit behind the notes.
