CORONATION Street actress Karen Henthorn has taken on a new role in the Channel 5 controversial drama The Teacher.

Having appeared in a number of soaps over the years, we take a further look at who this actress is.

Who is Karen Henthorn? 

Karen Henthorn is a 59-year-old British character actress born in Oldham, Lancashire.  

She began to have an interest in drama at age 12 when she decided to join the Oldham Theatre workshop and was casted in her first professional role aged 13, playing Betty Parris in the theatre production of The Crucible. 

Once she finished school she went on to complete a further five years in full time drama education with a two year found course in theatre studies at her local college.

Following on from this she then went and completed three years at London’s Method Acting School, The Drama Centre.

In 2013 she appeared in the touring National Theatre production of War Horse.

Karen currently teaches screen acting on the BA (Hons) Acting course at Italia Conti Academy which is located in Clapham, London and Manchester School of Theatre.

Who did Karen play in Coronation Street? 

Karen portrayed the role of Teresa Bryant in the long running British soap opera Coronation Street.

She began the role briefly in 2007 and then became a regular character in 2008 and her character was involved in many major storylines.

However, by late 2008 she left the show to only return in April 2009.

Karen ended up staying a further year before she decided to depart for good in 2010.

What TV shows has Karen Henthorn been in?

Karen has been in a number of different TV shows.

Her roles before Coronation Street included parts in series such as The Booze Cruise, Doctors and Heartbeat.

She also played Julie Haye in EastEnders and Marissa Platting in the TV series Shameless.

More recently, she appeared on Sky One’s comedy series Trollied and also played a school inspector in the 2010s CBBC series Young Dracula.

When is The Teacher on Channel 5?

The Teacher kicked off on Monday, January 31 at 9pm on Channel 5.

There are four episodes of the new drama in total, airing nightly at 9pm on Channel 5.

The fourth and final episode will air on Thursday, February 3.
