AMAZON has finally released its long-awaited rival to popular shooter games like Fortnite and Call of Duty.
It’s called Crucible – and marks the launch of Amazon’s first major video game ever.
What is Crucible?
It was developed by Amazon Game Studios, and has already been delayed twice.
But it’s finally available to download – and best of all, it’s completely free to play.
The game is a third-person team-based shooter set in an apocalyptic sci-fi future.
It’s a “hero” based shooter, which will be familiar to anyone who has played Overwatch, or a MOBA game like League of Legends.
Crucible gameplay revealed
There are three different game modes, including one 8v8 single elimination round.
And the other two game modes are objective-based – one 4v4 and the other 8v8.
“Each match in Crucible is a fight for survival and control,” Amazon explains.
“Not only will you be going toe-to-toe with your fellow competitors, but you’ll have to adapt and overcome all the challenges the planet itself throws your way.
“You and your teammates will need to work together to take down alien creatures, capture objectives, and pursue your opponents in search of victory.”
Insiders at the firm say that Crucible is designed for competitive play, which isn’t a huge surprise.
Game-streaming and esports are hugely popular, and gain significantly more publicity when a “pro” player scene develops.
What works in Amazon’s favour is that the retail giant also owns Twitch, one of the world’s biggest game-streaming platforms.
