CALL OF Duty fans can own a brand new game mode for free today – and you don’t even have to own a copy of the shooter.
Warzone pits 150 players against one another in a hectic battle to survive and will be available to download on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
Gamers will form squads of three and the new mode supports crossplay, which means people on PlayStation and Xbox will play against one another.
There are two Warzone modes available: Traditional Battle Royale and a Plunder mode.
Battle Royale games take on roughly the same rules as Fortnite, with 150 players dropping into a huge map where they fight to be the last man standing.
As the match goes on, gamers are gradually eliminated and the map gets smaller via an ever-tightening circle of poisonous gas that you must dodge to survive.

Fortnite’s own Battle Royale mode helped make the game a huge success and it seems Activision, the studio behind Modern Warfare, is following suit.
The other mode, Plunder, has players collect as much cash as they can by looting items and stealing enemies’ money across the all-new map.
There is only one Warzone map, though it looks more than big enough to keep players entertained for hours.
According to Activision, the map has 300 different point of interest, ranging from dense city blocks to more open, rural areas.

It’s sprinkled with elements from “classic” maps from previous Modern Warfare games, such as Broadcast, Terminal, Overgrown and Scrapyard.
One area where the game really changes it up is the way it handles player deaths and respawns.
When you’re killed, you enter a separate area dubbed the “Gulag”, where you’re pitted in a one-on-one gunfight against another player.
The intense battle takes place in a run-down set of prison shower stalls and whoever wins gets to drop back into the main map.

Other players who have died watch the action from a first-floor vantage point. They can even throw rocks at the warring pair below to deal small amounts of damage.
Rather than charge for the download, Activision is releasing is for free – even if you don’t have a copy of Modern Warfare, the latest instalment in the Call of Duty franchise.
While the game itself will be free, players will be able to pay for additional upgrades like new outfits for their avatars.
In the UK, Warzone will be able to download it from the Microsoft, PlayStation or Steam stores from 3pm GMT this afternoon if they own a copy of Modern Warfare.

Those without a copy of the game will have to wait to download it until 7pm GMT.
In the US, those download slots open at 8am and 12pm PDT respectively.
If you do own a copy of Modern Warfare, all of your online progress and rewards from the title will transfer across to Warzone.
Equally, if you don’t own the game and pick it up after downloading Warzone, any progress you’ve made on the new mode will also count for Modern Warfare.
Warzone had been rumoured for months and yesterday was the victim of a huge leak right before launch.
US YouTuber Chaos, real name Jimmy Markowski, seemingly accidentally uploaded a video of himself playing the game mode ahead of an agreed embargo.
Speaking in the now-deleted video, Chaos told his 2.7million subscribers that he was invited by Infinity Ward to capture gameplay of Warzone ahead of its release.
“Warzone is a free-to-play Battle Royale game,” the 39-year-old said. “You can download it and play for free.”
In other news, last month a Call of Duty YouTube star revealed his top tips to help you dominate multiplayer mode.
The Sun described Modern Warfare as “thrilling but not perfect” in our comprehensive review last year.
And, Sony recently confirmed the PS5 release date as coming before Christmas 2020.
