CALL of Duty players on Xbox have reported they can’t access the game due to a mysterious error.

The issue locks gamers out of the game and affects CoD’s 2019 Modern Warfare reboot as well as its new Fortnite-style Battle Royale mode, Warzone.

A mysterious error message is blocking Xbox gamers from playing the latest Call of Duty title

What is the error 13-71 gitch?

The glitch stops players on Xbox One from loading up Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Warzone, the Daily Star reports.

When gamers try to open either title, a message reads: “Memory Error: 13-71”.

Players can either choose to play offline or hit a button that exits the game completely.

Apparently, the glitch affects fans who have joined Regiments – the title’s in-game clan system.

Some people report receiving the error message after they were unknowingly added to a Regiment, rather than accepting a Regiment invite.

Activision Support has acknowledged the issue and is working towards a fix.

How to fix the error 13-71 gitch

Fortunately, there are three ways that you can fix the bug.

Method One: The Workaround

  1. Create a new Gamertag on your Xbox using an alternate email address and log into your new account
  2. Open Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (or Call of Duty: Warzone) on your console with the new account active
  3. Press the Xbox button, move all the way to the left, and switch to your normal Gamertag
  4. Now quit any Regiments you’re part of in the Social menu
  5. You should be able to jump straight into a game if the workaround has worked

Method Two: Create or remove a regiment

  1. When presented with the error message, hit B to play the game offline
  2. Go to your account settings, disable Crossplay and then return to the main menu
  3. Now try to open Warzone. You’ll get a message telling you that you need to enable cross-play again. Back out again.
  4. Head into your Social menu to remove your Regiment, then re-apply crossplay

Method Three: Reinstall the game

  1. Find Modern Warfare in the “My Games And Apps” menu in the Xbox dashboard
  2. Hit the options button (the one with the three horizontal lines) and select uninstall
  3. To reinstall, head to the Microsoft store or the Library section of the “My Games and Apps” page
  4. The game is a chunky 130GB and will take a while to install – so only use this option as a last resort

What is Call of Duty Warzone?

Warzone is a new standalone Call of Duty game that’s free to play, even if you don’t own a copy of the shooter.

It pits 150 players against one another in a hectic battle to be last man standing and is available to download from March 10 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Players form squads of three and the new mode supports crossplay, which means people on PlayStation and Xbox will play against one another.

There are two Warzone modes available: Traditional Battle Royale and a Plunder mode.

Battle Royale games take on roughly the same rules as Fortnite, with 150 players dropping into a huge map where they fight to be the last man standing.

As the match goes on, gamers are gradually eliminated and the map gets smaller via an ever-tightening circle of poisonous gas that you must dodge to survive.

Fortnite’s own Battle Royale mode helped make the game a huge success and it seems Activision, the studio behind Modern Warfare, is following suit.

The other mode, Plunder, has players collect as much cash as they can by looting items and stealing enemies’ money across the all-new map.
