GRAND THEFT AUTO (GTA) is a popular video game which features a player stealing cars throughout his adventures, completing missions and finally earning money to live an elite life.
It has been noticed how when footage of GTA is shown, the player is always a man, and so the question was raised, can you play the recent GTA 5 as a girl?

GTA has not made it possible for users to play with a girl character in any of their games so far.

Another way how the game can be seen to objectify women is that the one of the only ways to get a girlfriend is to go to a strip club.
It sees women being used mainly for men’s sexual pleasure and in posters they are also shown giving sexual glares and wearing less clothing as possible.
This has given the game many criticism and many petitions have been previously made to create a female main character.
Some think that the reason behind the portrayal of women in the game is to attract more male users.
It also raises concerns for children who play the game although it should not be played by those under 18-years-old.
It still is, and many worry that the game might influence children and adults alike on their ways how to treat women and other issues such as drug use and violence.
Who is the GTA 5 cover girl?
The GTA cover girl does not really carry any importance to GTA’s storyline.
They are simply cover art which are used for marketing purposes and are used for promotional content.
They are rarely ever found in the game in fact but Rockstar Games have been using this marketing strategy since 2001.
The GTA 5 cover girl carried a lot of controversy with her.
Compared to the cover girls in previous games, she does not have a proper name, she is simply known as GTA 5 Selfie Girl.
She is holding the latest iFruit phone while she’s taking a selfie at the beach, representing the culture of Los Santos.
Model Shelby Welinder was hired to pose for GTA 5’s cover girl but this still did not stop Lindsay Lohan from taking the game to court.
She filed a law suit claiming that Rockstar Games are using her likeliness for the cover girl.
It dragged on for four years before the court decided to drop it, stating that the case had no merit to it and it was frivolous from the start.
It was concluded by the court that the cover was of a “generic twenty-something woman without any particular identifying physical characters.”
Some fans on forums claimed that rather than Lindsay Lohan, the cover girl looks like model Kate Upton.
Will GTA 6 have a girl playable character?
It is rumoured that GTA 6 will feature the first ever female character in the series.
This was leaked by Tom Henderson on Twitter who said: “For the first time ever in a GTA title, GTA 6 will have a playable female and male protagonist.”
According to Henderson’s sources, she will be the brains of the group as she specialises in hacking and tech.

The new GTA 6 might come out by no earlier than 2026.
It was rumoured to come out between 2023 and 2025, but now many fear delays after no clues were given on when the game might come out in a presentation given by Rockstar Games owners Take-Two Interactive.
