HALO fans have a brand new game to look forward to – and it’ll land on the Xbox Series X later this year.

Here’s everything we know so far about Halo Infinite, including the plot, the first gameplay trailer, and release date news.

The Master Chief is back – and ready for action

Halo Infinite – what is it?

Halo Infinite is an upcoming first-person shooter game published by Xbox Game Studios.

It’s the sixth main entry into the Halo franchise, but the 14th game overall.

It’s being developed by 343 Industries and SkyBox Labs, and continues the story of the Master Chief – directly on from Halo 5: Guardians.

The game will be available on Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and the upcoming Xbox Series X.

Halo Infinite gameplay footage has already been revealed

Halo Infinite story – what’s the plot?

Details on the plot of Halo Infinite are light, but we still know a few titbits.

For a start, Master Chief is back, and serves as the playable protagonist for the story.

You’ll get to explore a Halo ring – massive installations created by the Forerunners that were designed to kill the Flood.

“When all hope is lost and humanity’s fate hangs in the balance, the Master Chief is ready to confront the most ruthless foe he’s ever faced,” Microsoft explains.

“Begin anew and step inside the armour of humanity’s greatest hero to experience an epic adventure and finally explore the scale of the Halo ring itself.”

A turreted Warthog makes a return

Halo Infinite gameplay – what have we seen so far?

We saw a teaser of some gameplay during the Xbox Game Showcase in July 2020.

Detailed lighting effects are clearly visible – the glint on the Chief’s visor, and lens flare from the sun.

It looks like a quintessential Halo game, blasting alien baddies on epic sci-fi worlds – with assault rifles, sticky grenades and the iconic turreted Warthog vehicle.

We see classic Covenant-style enemies, and iconic weapons like the Needler and shotgun.

And even the audio effects are familiar, including the classic hum of a levitation lift, and the squeals of terrified grunts.

Microsoft appears to be playing it safe with typical Halo gameplay that should please long-time fans of the franchise.

You’ll still be blasting alien baddies

The assault rifle will be a staple in the Master Chief’s arsenal once again

Halo Infinite release date – when is it out?

We still don’t have a release date for Halo Infinite.

However, Microsoft has said that the game will be out in the fourth quarter of 2020 – that’s any time from September to December.

We’re expecting the Xbox Series X to launch in either October or November.

So that means it’s likely Halo Infinite will launch alongside the console, well in time for Christmas.
