Nintendo’s Switch console is in stock at Argos – but you’ll need to be quick

THE UK lockdown has meant high-demand for home entertainment and consoles.

And as Brits have kitted out homes, the Nintendo Switch has been hugely popular.

The beloved console is flexible and highly entertaining, making it the perfect pick-up device.

And while interest in Sony’s PS4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One consoles has also rocketed, the Switch has been at the front of the queue.

But high demand and a reported shortage of essential components has made getting the Switch tricky, with only the Switch Lite available at most retailers.

There’s some good news though, as Argos currently has stock of the Switch, and an Animal Crossing console bundle too.

The lowest cost option is the Switch Neon console on its own, priced by Argos at £279.99.

It comes without any games, but the retailer is reporting ‘limited stock’ of the item (for delivery and collection) due to popularity.

Alternatively, you could pick up the Nintendo Switch Animal Crossing console bundle.

That’s priced at £329.99, with the popular title included and the console’s colour matching the tones of the game.

If you’re keen on the Switch Neon’s bright colours this might not be for you, but the Animal Crossing bundle isn’t maked as limited stock.

The shortage of the console has been in part due to Covid-19 lockdowns in Malaysia and the Philippines, Bloomberg has reported, impacting component supply.

“Malaysia is Nintendo’s source for printed circuit boards while the Philippines provides passive components that attach to those PCBs.

“Both nations have had to limit business operations and travel as part of their efforts to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.”

The report adds that most forms of economic activity are now opening up in Malaysia.

But there has been some delay “while companies struggled to get all their workers tested before returning to work”.

That means supply issues for the Switch might carry on for a little while yet, with stock of the console patchy until more components become available.

So if you’re looking around for one now, it might be a good time to secure yours.
