FRUSTRATED gamers playing the upcoming PlayStation 5 may get a helping hand from their console when they’re struggling to beat a tricky game.

The machine’s controller will reportedly sense when a player is stressed and automatically bump down the difficulty to give them an easier ride.

Japanese tech titan Sony has already announced the PS5 and details of its revamped controller, but hasn’t officially shown off either to the public.

Little is known about the console besides its vague “Holidays 2020” release date (which means sometime in October or November).

The controller is said to feature an array of high-tech gimmickry, and a new patent filed by Sony suggests it may boast stress sensors.

These sensors would slip over the controller’s grips or buttons and track a player’s heart rate and sweat levels, according to the patent.

Once the controller figures out how nervous you are, your console will adjust the game’s difficulty accordingly.

The idea is that gamers are less likely to continue playing if a game stresses them out, so the console would make it easier to beat to keep them calm.

“It is advantageous to be able to detect when a user is becoming increasingly frightened,” Sony writes in its patent.

The console would “modify in-game parameters (such as number of enemies, type of enemies, environmental lighting levels, or the sounds which are played to the user) so as to reduce the intensity of the gaming experience and put the user more at ease.”

Sony describes the apparatus as an attachment, meaning it could potentially be slotted onto existing PS4 or PS3 controllers.

With the PS5 just a few months away, however, we’d imagine the sweat-sensing gear is designed with Sony’s newer console in mind.

As with any patent, there’s no guarantee that Sony will actually build the bonkers attachment.

It could simply be an idea that is binned at a later date.

Rumours suggest we’ll get our first look at the PS5 laterthis month.

Sony has already confirmed that the console is coming out in time for Christmas this year.

But the PS5’s precise release date, as well as its price and what it looks like, remain a mystery.

Apparently, Sony will wait to put a price on the console until its competition Microsoft’s Xbox Series X, also out later this year gets a number.

Of particular excitement to Sony fans is the rumoured support for “backwards compatibility”.

This is the ability to play old games on the PS5 console from all five platforms: PS1, PS2, PSP, PS3 and PS4.

Some of the rumoured launch titles include Gran Turismo 7, MLB The Show 21, Demon Souls Remastered, Godfall and Legendz.

Pre-orders are tipped as going live on the same day as the launch event, but the actual on-sale day is tipped to fall in October 2020.
