IT LOOKS like Sony will only offer up one PlayStation 5 per customer when the hotly-anticipated console launches later this year.
That’s according to one eagle-eyed PlayStation fan, who revealed the alleged limit after sifting through the code of the official PlayStation website.
Posting their findings to Reddit, user Kgarvey identified text hidden among the website’s code that appears to suggest a limit on PS5 pre-orders.
“You can only purchase one version of the PS5 Console: Disc or Digital. You have already added one PS5 console to your cart,” the text reads.
The PS5 is scheduled for release ahead of Christmas, though Sony has yet to nail down an exact release date – or price tag.
As well as bolstered graphics, the console will run at up to 8K resolution and boast lightning-fast loading times.
The PS5’s hidden pre-order text was buried in the official website’s source code.
Source code is the programming behind any webpage, and can sometimes contain information not due to be shown on the page for months to come.
It’s possible the newly found text was days ago and then left in the code ready for the as-yet unknown date when pre-orders open.
According to Kgarvey, this could indicate that PS5 pre-orders will launch in the coming weeks.
“That an error message for adding PS5s to your cart is already in the public PlayStation Direct source code suggests to me that pre-orders are imminent,” they wrote.
“I would speculate they are coming within the next 2 weeks.”
The fact that Sony is limiting pre-orders shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.
The Japanese gaming giant did the same for orders of the PS4 when that launched in 2013.
