PS5 sold out – what happened?

A number of major UK retailers are expected to drop huge PlayStation 5 restocks this week.

Both GAME UK and Smyths Toys could restock the sold out console as early as today, according to stock trackers on social media.

Other retailers that could drop stock on their online store this month include Very, ASDA and John Lewis.

The rumours come from Twitter account @PS5Instant, one of the web’s most popular PlayStation stock trackers.

According to the account, The GAME UK release is expected to happen between July 6 and July 15.

Smyths, on the other hand, is due a restock between July 9 and July 16.

Another retailer, Amazon UK, is rumoured to be releasing more consoles later this month, around July 14.

As well as the dates of each drop, PS5Instant gave the times that each restock is expected to hit each website.

“Next Amazon PS5 shipment is expected between 13-21st July- big shipment. EXCLUSIVE: Smyth PS5 Restock arriving 9-16th July (8-1pm),” the Twitter account wrote.

“GAME 6-15th July (9-11am) as we previously posted. Most likely 6-8th.”

Of course, the retailers have made no official announcements on their next PS5 restocks, so take the rumours with a pinch of salt for now.

Restock-tracking Twitter accounts commonly rely a network of sources to reveal stock drops ahead of time – and not all of them are reliable.

What is the PS5?

The PS5 is Sony’s latest and greatest gaming console.

It’s the successor to the PS4 and PS4 Pro, and is available in two distinct versions.

Those are the pricey PS5 proper with all the bells and whistles, and the digital edition, which is cheaper but with no disc tray.

Both consoles came out in November 2020 with an impressive roster of launch games.

The PlayStation 5 starts at just under £450 in the UK and $500 in the US

And they’re going head-to-head with Microsoft’s next-gen consoles, the  Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

Like Sony, Microsoft has opted to launch two machines: A full-works console with a higher price tag and a cheaper one without a disc tray.

The PS5 release date landed on November 12 in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea.

In the UK, gamers weren’t able to get their hands on it until November 19.

The Xbox Series X has a tall, boxy design that’s markedly different from previous models

The PS5 proper costs £449.99/$499.99, while the digital edition comes in at $399/£359.

So how does that compare to the PS5’s biggest rival, the Xbox Series X?

Microsoft’s pair of next-gen consoles came out a little earlier and landed on November 10, 2020.

The cheaper disc-free Xbox Series S costs £249/$299, while the Xbox Series X comes in at £449/$499.

All prices were correct at the time of writing, but may have since changed. Always do your own research before making any purchase.

In other news, HOAR’s favourite alternative to a games console is the Oculus Quest 2 VR headset.

Grab a VR headset and you’ll be able to play the legendary Beat Saber – like Guitar Hero, but with lightsabers.

And Dell’s Alienware R10 Ryzen Edition is a gaming PC powerhouse that crushes both the new consoles.
