SONY’S new PlayStation 5 will “far outsell” rival Xbox Series X – by nearly two-to-one.
That’s the claim from a top gaming expert who says the PS5 will win the next console war.
Both Microsoft and Sony have now unveiled their respective next-gen consoles.
The pair are powerful machines capable of playing games in 8K resolution.
Sony has adopted a space-age new design, while Microsoft’s Xbox Series X is a more traditional box shape.
And it seems Sony will win out, at least according to a new report by Ampere Analysis’ Piers Harding-Rolls.
The industry insider claims that by the end of 2024, there will be 66million PS5 units out in the wild.
By comparison, Piers expects to see just 37million Xbox Series X units in circulation.
The Playstation’s stark lead is expected to begin almost immediately.
According to Piers, the PS5 will sell 4.6million units this year, compared to 3.3million for the Xbox Series X.
In a summary of the report by Games Industry, Piers says Sony’s current market leadership over Microsoft will help the PS5 bag a win.
He also highlights the extensive list of PS5 exclusives and PlayStation’s “global brand allegiance”.
We still don’t know exactly how much either console will cost.
What we do know is that there are two different PS5 models, including an all-digital edition.
This will almost certainly be cheaper, because it abandons the disc-tray (and therefore the UHD Blu-ray player).
