MICROSOFT and Sony will both make major reveals about their new consoles as early as next month, according to rumours.
The Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 are out later this year, and promise unbelievable graphics as well as loading speeds ten times faster than the current generation of consoles.
However, despite being announced months ago, there are still plenty of details we’re missing.
We don’t even know what the PS5 looks like, for instance, and neither Sony nor Microsoft have announced a price.
That may all change in May, according to industry analyst Daniel Ahmad.
Daniel suggested in a report that Sony and Microsoft have shifted their schedules following the cancellation of E3.
The world’s biggest gaming show is hosted in Las Vegas in June each year but the 2020 event has been called off in the wake of the current global health crisis.
According to Daniel, that could push reveal events of major consoles and games forward, possibly to May.
“With E3 cancelled, a lot of the planned reveals / announcements have been moved out of that single week,” Daniel tweeted on Monday.
“Some are now much earlier, others much later. Some still during E3 week. The first proper next gen console/games showcase is much earlier too.”
Rumours have suggested the PS5 will get an official reveal next month, but that could now be pushed back to June, according to a separate report from VideoGamesChronicle.
Citing unnamed sources, the publication alleges that Sony is pushing back the unveiling of its console to a date between E3’s planned June 9 to 11 timeframe.
Sources said that Sony had planned an announcement for May but changed its timing with E3’s cancellation.
Microsoft is expected to make a big announcement about its console next month.
Obviously, we can’t confirm the rumours, so take them with a pinch of salt for now.
We likely won’t know more about any potential reveals until Sony or Microsoft announce them.
Both companies have said their consoles will hit shelves in the lead up to Christmas this year.
It’s not clear if either’s release will be pushed back by the current global health crisis.
Microsoft has confirmed it will launch its new console, the Xbox Series X, around the same time.
Earlier this year, analysts suggested the Series X and PS5 could hit shelves with price tags as high as £500.
They predicted that the two consoles will share similar specs, pricing and features.
“Both consoles will be a lot more similar to each other in terms of specs, pricing, and features when compared to the last generation,” Serkan Toto of Kantan Games said in January.
“Microsoft will likely avoid shenanigans like higher price (I expect $499 price tags for both), weaker specs, restrictions to used disc sales etc.”
It’s likely the consoles will launch at a similar price point in the UK, meaning around £500.
Microsoft confirmed in December that its new console would be named the Xbox Series X.
The machine will apparently run games at 4K resolution – double that of HD – with the possibility of running 8K.
It will also process games faster so as to “eliminate” loading times. A new Halo title will launch with the console.
Loading up a game on the PlayStation 5 will be ten times faster than on PS4, according to Sony.
We’re expecting new God of War and Horizon: Zero Dawn titles to launch with the console.
