Jonathan joked that he didn’t want to be ‘tarnished’ by Alan’s family

Masked Singer judge Jonathan wasn’t best pleased when he found out though.

Speaking to the star on his Life’s A Beach podcast, Alan said: “People might not know this, but your lovely late mum came up to me at your Halloween party and said, ‘We are related aren’t we’. Do you remember?

“I was so excited because we come from the same area, we are distantly related. I remember going over to you saying, ‘Jonathan, Jonathan your mum says we’re related’ and you went, ‘For f**k sake’.”

Jonathan replied: “I tried to stop her talking to people because she’d always find some famous connection.”

When Alan insisted their link was “quite strong”, Jonathan joked: “Is it really? I don’t know if I want to involved with you.”

Alan shot back: “What! F**k you.”

His secret relation continued the gentle ribbing, reminding Alan of his Who Do You Think You Are? episode in which his great grandfather was found to be a First World War deserter.

Henry Carter changed his name to Edward Mercer after fleeing the Camberwell ‘pals’ battalion’ in 1915.

Jonathan said: “You’ve got a deserter in your family. I don’t know if I want to be tarnished by that.”

When Alan pointed out they don’t look alike, Jonathan said: “Well, neither of us have got looks, let’s be honest. But you scrub up very well, you just don’t do it often!”
