RICKI Lake wants a UK comeback to be ‘the new Jeremy Kyle’ despite messing up her X Factor: Celebrity audition.

The 51-year-old American chat show host is one of the famous faces taking part in the new series of the ITV singing show alongside the likes of Megan McKenna and Hayley Hasselhoff.

The show starts on Saturday night, and viewers will see Ricki’s audition doesn’t go according to plan.

But speaking to The Sun Online, Ricki is still feeling positive about being part of the show, saying: “At this point in my career, I’ve done a lot.

“I’ve been around I think longer than anyone, [apart from] maybe Martin [Bashir].

“I’ve had a 30+ year career in the business, doing lots of different things, from talk shows to acting, not so much singing, but this is like another thing I get to try.”

The 51-year-old is loving being in the UK for the ITV singing competition and would be open to doing a talk show here
Ricki’s talk show ran from 1993 until 2004
The Jeremy Kyle Show was cancelled in May this year

While Ricki is keen to try new things, she hasn’t turned her back on her chat show queen status, admitting she’d love to fill the gap left by Jeremy Kyle on UK TV screens.

She said: “I am open to all the opportunities that comes from this.

“I’m an empty nester now. Both my children are grown, my kids are 22 and 18 and I have new love in my life who also could be very portable, so we’ll see.

“I mean, I’ve only been here a few days, I’ve never lived here, but to be here two months and a half in this apartment, to walk my dog, I brought my dog – I’m living my best life, for sure.”

Ricki wants to do a one woman show in London in December

Ricki – who starred in the 1988 film Hairspray as Tracy Turnblad – also revealed her plans to take to the West End stage to talk about her long and varied career.

She said: “I’m probably going to do a one woman show the first week in December here in London, just a couple of nights just for fun, because I’ve never done it.

“Tell stories, tell stories about my career and sing songs.”

The X Factor: Celebrity begins Saturday, October 12 at 8.35pm on ITV.
